However, I want to just make some general comments here. Student loans fall into two categories, federal loans and private loans. A federal education loan is subject to rules and regulations put forth by the federal government. You would think that this type of loan is probably the safest way for you to go. And that can be true. However, some private lenders and their marketers use names, seals, logos, or other representations that are similar to those of government agencies in order to create the false or misleading impression that they are part of or affiliated with the federal government and its student loan programs. So beware of this. The federal government does not send advertisements or mailers, or otherwise solicit consumers to borrow money. If you receive a student loan solicitation, it is not from ED. Now this is not to say you cannot find good college education loans elsewhere. Under certain circumstances you may need to. I am just pointing out that it is up to you to thoroughly investigate and understand exactly what you are applying for. It's buyer beware here just as it always is and you simply need to put aside time to investigate and learn all you can about college student loans. Hopefully this site will help you.
